Wakanda Forever
I will never forget the day I learned that Chadwick Boseman had passed away after a four-year battle with colon cancer. He was so gracious and did not make any mention of his illness prior to his death, which added to the shock of the tragic news. I didn’t really know him or his work at the time besides that of Black Panther and Da Five Bloods, which are both fantastic films. Actually, Black Panther changed my life because it was a powerful portrayal of my people, my heritage and my culture. It opened my eyes to see what real black kings were. I remember the excitement of going to watch the movie with some of my friends. It was a truly magical experience. Since then, I made a point of watching more of his work and appreciate what a brilliant talent he was and still is, because his name lives on through what he has achieved.
He did so much in his 43 years on this earth (and not only acting) and he was a man of God. On social media, I came across a video of him giving an inaugural speech to some university graduates and he spoke on purpose, quoting my favourite scripture, Jeremiah chapter 29 verse 11. It is so profound and sad at the same time. May he rest in eternal peace.
I thought of the backlash that I might get from certain people because I posted that video on my social media. I thought they might see it as hypocrisy that I’m sharing a video of him talking about God having a plan to…
